Frederick C. Robie House
5757 South Woodlawn Avenue Chicago, Illinois 60637-1602 708/848-1976 Tours available; contact the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust Frank Lloyd Wright, 1906 Without a doubt, the best known of Wright’s Prairie residences. Having faced demolition on more than one occasion, the house is now being restored. An interesting aspect of the house’s former life was its use as a women’s dormitory. This postcard, a copy of which was graciously provided by Nancy Foutz, reads, “The Chicago Theological SeminaryWomen’s Residence Halls at 5753 and 5757 Woodlawn Avenue. These beautiful houses are used exclusively for women students of the Seminary which was founded in 1855, and has sent out more than 3,000 trained leaders to fields of Christian service.” Topmost photograph courtesy of Rick McNees; the remainder courtesy of Wayne Wood; historic postcard courtesy of Nancy Foutz.
