Henry Salzer House
1634 King Street (at 17th Street)
La Crosse, Wisconsin 54601-4218

Percy Dwight Bentley, 1912

A unique commission that reflects the tastes of both Mr. and Mrs. Salzer. In keeping with Salzer’s wish, the exterior of the house is inspired by Wright, while the interior conforms to Salzer’s wife’s desire for a Colonial residence. Of fireproof construction (stucco over clay tile block), the house cost $80,000. The original exterior was a dark cream body color, brown trim and a cypress shingle roof stained moss green.
